Abstract
This article discusses the results of the laboratory tests of Human Granulocytic Anaplasmosis (HGA) from a suspected patient in South Korea. HGA is a zoonotic tick-borne disease and the agent is known as Anaplasma phagocytophilum which is mainly transmitted by ticks. We performed serological tests of HGA using indirect immuno-fluorescent antibody assay (IFA) from the serum of a total of 201 patients. Also, we performed the PCR test using 16S rRNA target gene from 118 cases of the patients¡¯ blood. In serological tests using IFA, IgG or IgM for A. phagocytohilum were found in 14 of the 201 cases; 4 of the 9 cases which had convalescent sera showed seroconversion. Three of the 118 cases showed positive results during the PCR test. This article provides a basis for the laboratory diagnosis of febrile patients who had fever with a recent history of tick bites during their outdoor activity.
